Marketing Deparment | National Louis University Archives and Special Collections

Name: Marketing Deparment

Historical Note:

The primary duty of the Marketing Department is to generate revenue for the university.  They do this through advertisements on radio, television or print media.  Most of these advertisements are external, but can be internal as well if the function is deemed is to boost enrollment or revenue.

Examples of items produced or controlled by the Marketing Department are: photographs designed for advertisements, radio spots, video for television and online advertisements, brochures for new or returning students, the NLU Insider (specifically created by the Publications Department as a sub-department of Marketing), NLU Today (specifically created by the Publications Department as a sub-department of Marketing) and the NCE Quarterly (in the near future).

Development and Structure:

Originally Marketing was its own department.  In the early 2000’s it was merged under Marketing and Communication along with Public Relations and Government Publications.  Publications is a sub-group of marketing.

Special considerations for organization of records:

While Marketing and Public Relations are separate departments, sometimes their work overlaps.  For this reason their record groups should be either filed physically near each other, or will need to be connected through Archon if necessary.
